How to Set Up Parental Controls on an iPhone

Every iPhone has built-in tools to help keep your child safe. This guide walks you through the three most important ones.

Setting up Screen Time

Open Settings, tap Screen Time, then tap Turn On Screen Time. Choose "This is My Child's iPhone" when prompted. You can now set daily limits for apps and schedule downtime when the phone locks itself.

Restricting app downloads

Under Screen Time, tap Content & Privacy Restrictions, then iTunes & App Store Purchases. Here you can require a password for every download, or block new app installs entirely.

Filtering web content

In the same Content & Privacy Restrictions menu, tap Content Restrictions, then Web Content, and choose "Limit Adult Websites" to automatically filter explicit content in Safari.
